October 2010
We are very happy and thankful to report that Dwight received his heart transplant on October 14, 2010. The thoughtful and generous gift of a stranger and their family has given Dwight another chance for a healthy life. As a result of this gift, Dwight and his family have enjoyed another Thanksgiving, another Christmas, and another New Year celebration together. They are looking forward to many more celebrations. Additional details about the transplant process and Dwight's current condition can be found at www.caringbridge.org/visit/dwightdouglas. Dwight and his family are so thankful for the help and support Dwight has received and continues to be blessed with during this journey. All the prayers, words of encouragement, financial gifts, phone calls, emails, and visits are so greatly appreciated!! A special note of thanks to all who have contributed financial assistance. The funds that have been given are helping cover the out-of-pocket expenses associated with Dwight's transplant and continuing medical care. Dwight and his family will forever be thankful for the generosity of so many friends, family members, and even strangers! Thank you all!! Updates will continue to be posted on this site and on Dwight's CaringBridge site.
January 2010
It is hard to believe that it has been almost a full year since Dwight was hospitalized for heart failure and found out that he needed a second heart transplant!
It is with gladness and thankfulness that we are able to share that Dwight is now covered by insurance! He was able to open enroll on his wife Marita's policy effective January 1st, and now has another $500,000 in transplant coverage. Now that there is enough coverage for another heart transplant, Dwight has begun the evaluation process to determine whether or not he will be placed on the transplant waiting list. Although Dwight and his family are very thankful for the new insurance coverage, they are aware that there will be substantial out-of-pocket expenses. Because of this, fundraising efforts will continue to help with Dwight's medical expenses.
Please continue to pray for Dwight, specifically that he will remain strong enough to undergo a transplant and that a heart will be available in the right timing. Please pray also for wisdom for his medical team of doctors, nurses, and transplant coordinators as they map-out a plan and carry-out his care.

The goal is to raise a minimum of $500,000 to cover Dwight’s transplant related expenses.
If for any reason Dwight does not utilize the full amount given for his personal transplant related expenses, the family will donate the remainder of the funds to the Midwest Heart Institute. |
